Enhance Your Pool: Concrete Pool Border & Mini Waterfall

Last updated on April 18, 2019 by Sozo Staff Leave a Comment

Whether you’re already enjoying your backyard pool or you’re thinking about installing one, perhaps you’re in the market for some cost-efficient amenities that will make your outdoor oasis even more inviting. You may think that adding any fancy frills to your pool would definitely be outside of your budget. If so, think again! Though it’s true that certain luxury items might be beyond your reach financially, there are still plenty of ways you can spruce up your pool area without breaking the bank.

This three part series will focus on some of these affordable little perks that can help your backyard pool feel even more like your own private piece of paradise. You could add them on all at once if you have a windfall, or save up and put them in gradually. Then each year you’ll have something fresh and exciting to look forward to when swimming season rolls around.

Include a Concrete Pool Border

Concrete patios and coping are a bargain compared with some of the other options on the market. This sturdy and versatile material can create either a simple or sophisticated look based on the pouring method used by your contractor. Concrete pool borders are gaining popularity due to their affordability, durability and how quickly they can be installed.

If you want a uniform concrete pool border, simply have your contractor pour the concrete all the way up to your pool’s edge. Or, if you prefer more of a visually separated appearance for your pool border, you can have them end the concrete patio pour and then add the border as an additional pour. This little installation trick can give the illusion of a tile or stone border without the extra expense. You can even order concrete with color added to it for extra dimension. These attractive concrete borders rival some of the most expensive stone or tile borders on the market, but at a fraction of the cost of these pricey materials.

Add a Mini Waterfall

There’s perhaps no natural water feature that’s quite as refreshing to the mind, body, and soul as a small, tranquil waterfall. A man-made version of this feature, also known as a cascade, can be added to your backyard pool. These small cascades are typically between 18 and 12 inches wide. Whether you include it as part of a larger landscaping structure or as a standalone item, it can add charm and dimension to your pool area. All your backyard cascade will take is a little extra plumbing. If you’re interested, seek out a pool plumbing specialist in your area to schedule an estimate.

Perhaps your pool looks or feels a bit boring. If so, it may be time to think about incorporating some fun new add-ons. Including these types of additional features in your pool area can make a world of difference when it comes to giving your pool an impressive appearance. In our next article in this series, we’ll look at even more affordable and creative ways you can give your pool a makeover without exceeding your budget.
