A Few Fresh Ideas for Your Next Pool Party

If you’re ready to get a little more creative than grilling burgers or ordering pizza and using the same luau theme, we’re here with some fresh ideas for your next pool party! From creative themes to planning tips and ways to play your music of choice, we’re here to help you get your party started!

A Few (More) Fun Theme Ideas

In addition to the themes we introduced in another post, another hot concept for theme parties is the Classic Rock motif. Each person can represent a particular rock star, or you could even give out props or accessories. If you ask your guests to try to dress up as a famous rocker, you can offer a prize for the ones who get the most correct guesses — or who guesses the most. Food can include red-carpet-worthy hors d’ouvres and maybe some colorful cupcakes with edible glitter. Of course, your rock star theme would be incomplete without a little Karaoke, but Karaoke parties can be fun even without a more specific theme. Believe it or not, you can even buy your own Karaoke machine for under $100.

A Water Wars party doesn’t have to be just for kids! We’re guessing many grown ups in your circle like to get competitive as well. You can choose (or have your guests vote on) coaches for each team and set up a tournament bracket with various games, from water volleyball to basketball and even chicken. You can even create or purchase a sort of traveling trophy to pass along, year after year, creating the obvious benefit of an annual tradition for your tribe to anticipate each year.

Specialty Features to Make This Year’s Party Special

Even if you do keep the same theme year after year, you can make each party unique by renting a piece of equipment or special new menu item. From trying out a new kabob recipe to making an ice cream sundae bar or trying out a new cocktail blend or frozen beverage option, your guests will look forward to something different on the menu. You could also rent a popcorn machine, snow cone maker, or cotton candy machine.

Before It’s Time for Your Guests To Go Home

Just like costumes and themes and friendly competitions, don’t assume adults won’t appreciate goodie bags! Consider your theme and your guests, of course, but anything goes! For a daytime party, maybe include lip balm with SPF and a custom koozie, or for an adult-only bash, you might want to consider a hangover kit with headache relief, an ice pack, and an individual pack of coffee. Be sure to assign someone to distribute these gifts to your guests, or place them someplace where they’ll be sure to be picked up as your guests depart.

If you do include alcoholic beverages, be sure to put safety first by encouraging guests to leave with a designated driver or call an Uber, if they can’t safely drive themselves home.
