The Penny Pincher Boutique, located in Westchester County, NY, tries to take any guesswork out of the consignment process for our many valued consignors. We have detailed policies in place, and we don’t keep them a secret, for good reason: we want you to know exactly what to expect before you come in with your clothing and other items for us to consider.

Without our many valued consignors, we couldn’t do what we do — and we appreciate you!

The Goods

We’ll be honest: we’re pretty picky when it comes to the items we allow onto our sales floor. First, we accept items that fit into a limited number of categories, with the bulk of our inventory made up of women’s designer clothing.

Other women’s items that we carry include these: handbags, shoes, accessories, travel bags, small leather items, and both fine and costume jewelry. In addition, we accept a few men’s items: travel bags, watches, ties, and small accessories.

In addition to those items, we do consign some home furnishings and décor items. (Please note that we do not accept any menswear, children’s clothing, wedding or bridesmaid dresses, or vintage items.)

In addition to the categories mentioned above, it’s imperative that our consignors realize that regardless of category, we accept only high-fashion clothing pieces made by certain manufacturers.

These high-fashion labels can sometimes be imitated, so our sales professionals are adept at authenticating each piece that we accept. Not only do we examine each piece for authenticity, but we also check for any damage or obvious signs of wear; all items must be free from any holes, stains, or snags.

The Schedule

Hermès Scarf

Here at the Penny Pincher, we try hard to maximize the effectiveness of our sales floor, featuring only in-demand pieces in any given season. As a result, we accept primarily cruise wear in January and spring clothing from February through April.

Then from May to June we accept summer pieces, and from August through October we prefer clothes and shoes appropriate for fall. Rounding out the year, November and December are reserved for winter clothing and holiday party wear. For more detailed descriptions of each season’s parameters, check out this list.

The Process

Nearly all the items we accept are consigned; in other words, instead of paying up front for any items we accept, we pay you an agreed-upon percentage of the sale price after we’ve sold a given item. (Chanel and Hermes classic handbags are the only exception; we will purchase them frequently outright.) In order to present your items to us for consideration, please make sure they’re freshly cleaned and pressed and hanging on hangers.

Then call us to make an appointment at your convenience; we have time slots available 5 days a week (all except Sundays and Thursdays). This method allows us to offer each potential consignor individualized attention without having to wait. If you have larger items, such as home furnishings, that you wish for us to consider, we will gladly take a look at photos of those items e-mailed to us.
