When I get in the mindset that I want something sometimes it can be hard to get out of the mindset. I’m sure we’ve all been there. For example, I want a cold soda but there is none in the fridge. Do I put one in the fridge for later, stick one in a bowl with ice water or the freezer (just don’t forget and let it explode!!!) or run down to Rutter’s gas station and buy one?
To answer that question, in this house we normally end up sticking a warm soda into a bowl of ice water and giving it a few minutes to cool down. It actually does a fairly good job. My husband and I did see an advertisement for a contraption that cools drinks in moments but haven’t convinced ourselves to buy such a thing.
There are many other areas of life where I would love to see things done “immediately if not sooner.” Take for example, getting the lights on in the house when I come home in the dark. I don’t like to come home in the dark and have to wander through the house turning on lights and looking for the boogieman around every corner.
I have found the quick and easy solution to this “problem” as well. Icy water will not solve this one, but X10 Home Automation products will (x10.com). With the push of a button on my keychain I can turn on multiple lights in my home before I’m even in the driveway. What a great way to eliminate the scare and illuminate the way.
The KR19A Keychain Remote Control looks just like a remote used to lock and unlock car doors. This one however, allows a person to control two lights or appliances within the home. There are also dimmer controls for the lights if a person were to want them to come on dimly so as not to wake other occupants of the house.
X10 products are very easy to use and quite affordable. Along with the keychain, it would be necessary to have X10 lamp modules or X10 appliance modules for the items to be controlled. Neither of these are very expensive and all of these items are available for a wonderful price at The Home Automation Store website.
Now I can have what I want. I can be out into the night and still have light when I get home. It doesn’t require that I burn electricity the whole time I’m gone and it doesn’t require waiting around. It’s fast and easy and just my style.
