Understanding X10 Home Automation Options: Overview of Controllers

Last updated on October 29, 2018 by Sozo Staff Leave a Comment

With X10 Home Automation, one thing you have plenty of is options! Once you understand the basic components of any X10 Home Automation System, you can select from prepackaged, money-saving bundles or build your own! And even if you start with an X10 MAX Home Automation Complete System or the all-inclusive X10 Home Security Kit with Home Automation Bundle, you can always tailor your home’s system, building on your initial setup as your home’s or family’s needs change. In this post, we’re going to peruse a few options you have when it comes to the specific controllers as you build your X10 Home Automation System.

X10 Plug-In Controllers

Your controller is important; it’s where you originate a predetermined or real-time event. One option is a plug-in controller like this MC10A White Plug-In Mini Controller, the classic MT13A 64-Event LCD Mini Timer or the all-new MT14A. Both the MC13A and MT14A can both control up to 8 different X10-enabled devices or appliances, store up to 64 timed events, and offer random lighting events for security purposes. The new-and-improved MT14A, though, has more of a sleek appearance and offers an easier-to-read format along with greater reliability.

X10 Hand-Held Controllers

Wireless X10 controller options also abound. One customer favorite remains the compact KR19A Keychain Remote Control, which is available in a money-saving 4-pack and which can control two unique X10 codes (and, of course, each code can control more than a single device). A slightly larger remote, the KR22A CreditCard Thin Remote Control offers even more potential, with its ability to control 4 unique X10 addresses. Another hand-held remote control option is the HR12A PalmPad Remote Control. You can purchase a 3-pack of these amazing controllers, each of which can control up to 16 X10 addresses.

X10 Wall-Mounted Wireless Controllers

Keychain or pocket-friendly remote controls aren’t the only options when it comes to wireless controllers. The SS13A Slimline Switch Decorator White easily sticks to any wall and appears similar to standard switch plates in size and shape. Available in a cost-saving 3-pack, the SS13A can control up to 4 X10 addresses. Other wall-mounted options include the XPS4 Quiet Relay Wall Switch and the WS 467 Wall Kit.
