3rd World Volunteer Opportunities with Bridges to Community

Last updated on January 26, 2019 by Sozo Staff Leave a Comment

Bridges to Community is a non-profit organization dedicated to alleviating poverty in Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. We offer a variety of different volunteer opportunities for groups and individuals who want to make a difference in some of the most economically challenged regions in these countries. In one life-changing week, volunteers can make a lasting impact that will serve to benefit entire communities for weeks, months, and years to come.

Project Locations

Our work in both the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua focuses on outreach to rural areas. Those who volunteer with us get a chance to experience both the local culture as well as the breathtaking scenery. Best of all, they’ll have a chance to get to know and help the precious people in our target communities.

Trip Overview

Each trip will have certain service-oriented objectives. These could fall into the realm of improving housing, economic development, public health, education, or a mix of several of these different endeavors. Along with the specific trip project, volunteers will have time for soaking in the culture by means of exploring nearby natural and tourist attractions, tasting authentic Nicaraguan or Dominican cuisine, living in dormitory housing, and attending community events. It will be a trip to remember for a lifetime!

Service Project Examples

Volunteers can sign up for trips that they feel suit their skill set and interests. These could include such varied activities as digging wells or constructing healthcare facilities, libraries, homes, community centers, and educational institutions. We also have trips for those with limited physical capabilities that allow them to still make a difference in the lives of people in poverty. To find a trip that would be a good fit, potential volunteers are encouraged to look at the upcoming trip calendar.

Potential Volunteer Candidates

Our volunteer workforce includes individuals who come from all different age groups and walks of life. Those who have plenty of experience going on service trips, as well as first-time volunteers, are welcome. Families may decide to bond in a new and exciting way through a group volunteer effort. Other groups, such as faith-based groups, school groups, businesses, and charitable groups can partner with us in our quest to improve life for those in the communities we serve.

Some are high school and college students who are seeking opportunities to broaden their cultural horizons and make a positive difference in the lives of those caught in cycles of poverty. Others are professionals searching for ways to put their various skills to work. Still more are senior citizens who want their retirement years to be enriched by meaningful acts of service.

Consider Volunteering with Bridges to Community

There’s probably nothing quite as rewarding as knowing that you’re participating in something that will change people’s lives for the better. If you’re looking for a positive and effective way to give back to those in need, going on a service project trip with Bridges to Community (BridgesToCommunity.org) could be the ideal volunteer experience for you.
