The Perfect Addition to Your Poolside Patio: An Outdoor Pizza Oven

If you’re looking for a classy, creative way to extend your options for al fresco meals, an outdoor pizza oven might be just the thing! From an easy weeknight dinner for just you and your tribe to your big pool party to signal the start of summer, your outdoor oven will quickly become a focal point of your outdoor space, second only to your swimming pool. Some kind of fire feature is, of course, the ideal complement to your water feature. Not only does it boast the practical benefit of providing a means of cooking your food, but a fire also represents warmth and welcome. One of several types of fire features you can add to your space, an outdoor pizza oven is quite different than your indoor oven. It’s able to heat your food to an ultra-high 900 degrees, providing the ideal temperature for quickly cooking that crust to crispy perfection.

Custom Pizza Ovens

The outdoor pizza oven is far from a mass-produced appliance; instead, it’s a custom-made brick structure that can be built to blend seamlessly with the rest of your outdoor space. Depending on your skill level, this could be a project you can DIY. Whether you decide to get your hands dirty or hire a professional, building a pizza oven will require several phases, including a cure time of about 20 days. So if you’re hoping to be able to use it for a big she-bang, maybe you should make it a “Midsummer’s Night” party, rather than a “Welcome to Summer” one.

If you’re using your outdoor brick oven as a centerpiece for your patio space, you can tie in pavers and various types of stone to make walkways and other landscaping blend with your oven. You can then add further fire features and lighting through tiki torches, pathway lighting, and twinkle lights.

Portable Pizza Ovens

If you’re not ready to commit to a huge patio renovation quite yet, you can simply add a portable pizza oven to your existing patio without the cost and time involved in a pricey renovation. An added bonus of a portable pizza oven is, of course, that instead of staying in your back yard, it can go other places with you — from indoors, during colder months to out camping in the wilderness. Your favorite big box retailer, whether it’s a brick-and-mortar store or an online option, will likely carry a portable oven that works well. Be sure to check your local stores, too. (You can find reviews of some popular models, here.)

The hand-held American favorite for which it’s named isn’t the only dish you can cook in your outdoor pizza oven. Brick ovens can be used to prepare a variety of dishes. Check out our next post for more menu ideas to enhance your next outdoor dining experience!
