Planning & Organizing a Successful Wine Tasting Event

Last updated on November 10, 2010 by Sozo Staff Leave a Comment

There are many reasons why people love to attend wine tasting events. They may be casual drinkers of wine but are still looking to find their favorite type. They could choose to purchase several different bottles to try over the years. However, they may only drink a few sips before deciding it is not what they are looking for. They may end up throwing away 3/4 a bottle of wine. This means money wasted for them.

Attending a wine tasting function offers someone the chance to sample many different flavors of wine without wasteful spending. It is a great way to get together with a group of friends. They can discuss and offer opinions of the flavors of wine. An understanding and appreciation of the wine will be enhanced by being around fellow wine tasters.

Organizing and hosting a wine tasting event requires a lot of planning and attention to detail. If you are in charge of organizing an annual wine tasting event, you know how much work it requires. You must decide upon which wines to purchase. You must also figure out how much of each wine will be needed. Generally, plan for 2 ounce samples for each person.

You must also come up with an invitation list. Your event may also allow open invitation to the public. Generally, the more people the merrier at a wine tasting event. It can only offer more varying opinions and insight. You must compile a total number of guests in order to place the wine order.

You must also decide upon what to serve. Most wine tastings serve plain water, bread, crackers or cheese to help rinse the taster’s food palette.

Lastly, you must decide upon decorations and party favors. Some people choose to offer wine tasting tablets, a piece of stemware, or bottle openers/stoppers. However, once someone has been to so many wine tastings, they are often looking for a new, unique favor to bring home.

Why not offer your wine tasters a flash drive in the shape of a wine bottle? You can choose the color. You can have information uploaded onto the flash drive that would be beneficial to any wine taster.

You may want to include a list of the wines that were sampled, along with pricing and ordering options. You can give a short description of the wine’s history and flavor. You may even include what foods pair well with this wine.

Often times, new wine tasters are confused as to event etiquette. You may include tips such as avoid wearing strong perfume or avoid swallowing every single sample.

You can also include a calender of upcoming events for your winery or organization. You may even include information about next year’s wine tasting event or even other similar events in the area.

Your guests will appreciate the thought and effort you have put into making their wine tasting experience one to remember. They will have a flash drive filled with informative texts, pictures, and even video clips that they can look to. They will also have a flash drive that they can use for their own personal or professional use.

So next time you are in charge of planning a wine tasting event, consider flash drives, in Canada, the US, and elsewhere. They are sure to be a hit and the taster will remember your event each and every time they use them.
