Mission Trips for College Students

Last updated on April 4, 2012 by Sozo Staff Leave a Comment

Spring break and summers off can be a great opportunity for college students to relax, hang out with friends, and sleep in all day. Time off from school can also be a great time to improve your life and see the world around you. This spring break or summer, consider grabbing a few like-minded friends and going on a mission trip. The experience will bring many benefits to you, including connecting you with God, allowing you to see the world, and helping you grow into a mature adult.

There are many opportunities available through your local church or perhaps even your college, or you can personally plan the trip. Mission trips can be a great opportunity to mature as an individual and build friendships with others from all walks of life. Below are three of the top benefits to mission trips:

Cultural Experience

Participating in a mission trip will broaden your horizons in multiple ways. New people will bring their life stories and up-bringings into your perspective. These friendships can last for years to come, and when you return to that country or town, you will have a place to stay and a friend to reconnect with. Mission trips help to build new, lasting friendships from all walks of life.

New foods will have you craving for more or missing mom’s cooking at home. These foods will be educational and wonderful experiences of culture. Your job responsibilities on a mission trip will vary greatly from building homes to providing healthcare to underprivileged children to running Vacation Bible School clubs and sharing the gospel of Christ with local children. These experiences will show you what it is like for others in the world and will give you a greater understanding of the human race.

Helping others

The greatest reward of participating in a mission trip is knowing how greatly you are helping others in need. During the school year, your schedule may be extremely busy, and it may be difficult or even impossible to make time for others in the community. A mission trip can help you take the time out of your busy schedule to give back to the community.

On a mission trip, you will gain a sense of unity as people come together to help one another and build or restore a neighborhood or community. Tasks and job duties vary from mission trip to mission trip, but the one key responsibility that carries on throughout every mission trip is the love and respect given to God. By attending a mission trip, you can teach God’s word to others and spread his love, hope and gift of salvation throughout the world.

Benefits to your future

Mission trips can greatly benefit your future. Not only will you have a once-in-a-lifetime experience as you help others, but you will also build your resume and grow as a young adult. Every country and place is different, and witnessing that first-hand will help you build your knowledge of the world around you. Learning and becoming proficient in another language, which could be another benefit of a mission trip, also helps you in the future. Finally, having mission trip experience on your resume shows prospective employers you are not afraid to be outside your comfort zone and that you are a worldly individual.

Egiving: for simplified mission trip fundraising

Mission trips are an excellent opportunity for college students. The cultural experiences and the knowledge you gain helping others will surely benefit your future. Unfortunately, there are many individuals who cannot afford to finance their own mission trips.

Thankfully, should you choose embark on a youth or college missions trip, E giving, an online donations system, allows your friends and family members to easily donate to your missions team via the internet. After you sign up for an online giving page through Egiving.com, you can spread the word about your upcoming trip, and friends can donate easily over the internet all across the country using a credit card or bank card.

Egiving is a valuable resource for churches and mission trip administrators to implement in order to more efficiently raise their support. The online giving tools of Egiving simplify funding for your donors as they give to mission trips and other Christian organizations from all over the world. Egiving also works great for churches seeking to implement online tithing. For more information on how you can get involved and help, visit www.egiving.com.
