How to Save Money in College

Last updated on January 17, 2012 by Sozo Staff Leave a Comment

College students are renowned for being poor and thrifty, but you don’t have to survive on Ramen Noodles in order to save money while in school. Simple tricks can help you save big while you’re in college.

For example, never buy your textbooks from the school store. Yes, textbooks are a big way your college store makes money, but let’s be honest, when you can purchase the same textbook online at a quarter of the price, paying big bucks at the college store is like throwing money away. But hey, if you’re willing to do it to support your college bookstore, go for it!

Also, try finding a ride-share program. Many times, students or the college itself will advertise weekend mall trips or city excursions for much less than it would cost you to drive yourself.

Finally, go to club meetings as much as possible. It helps you meet new people, but the money saver is really in the food. Most club meetings feature pizza or snacks to help draw in new members, and you should definitely take advantage of it. So what if you can’t speak Japanese? Go to the club meeting anyway for free food!
