How to Make Friends in College

Last updated on October 18, 2011 by Sozo Staff Leave a Comment

Many new college students’ biggest fear is that they won’t be able to make friends at their new school. While it seems logical – you’re a new person in a new place, after all, – it actually probably won’t be an issue at all. This is due largely to one single fact: Everyone is in the same boat!

You’re all new students, you’re all absolutely desperate to make friends and feel happy and comfortable, and you’re all going to latch on with a death grip to the first group of people who make you feel accepted. So stop worrying, and start getting excited. Also, college is supposed to be a breeding ground for new ideas and habits, so consider socializing with a group towards which you wouldn’t normally gravitate.

The first few weeks are an amazing time to do this because everyone is feeling alone, so they want to make as many new friends as possible. By branching out, you might be able to make great new friends in unexpected places.
