Having Fun in Your Pool After the Kids Go Back to School

All over the United States this time of year, children head back to school. It’s hard to believe that their last few carefree days making memories in the backyard pool for the summer are over. Once the kids are back in school, it may seem like the right time to think about closing up the pool for the season. After all, with all of their homework, sports practices, games, and other activities, they may not have much time left for swimming.

But before you get out the cover and start preparing your pool for the offseason, take a look around you. Chances are that there are still quite a few days of warm, pleasant weather left that would be ideal for swimming. Now that your kids aren’t home splashing around with their friends, here are a few ways you can take full advantage of getting some much-needed pool time.

Have an Adults-Only Swim Session

If you have kids at home, chances are that many of your pool parties revolve around entertaining them and their friends. Now that they’re off to school, it’s time for you to throw an adults-only pool party with your grown-up friends to celebrate the start of the school year! You can make it a big bash complete with a full menu and a long list of guests, or just a simple impromptu get-together with some of the other parents in your neighborhood. You can chat, laugh, swim, and enjoy one another’s company without having to worry about anyone keeping an eye on the kids for a change.

Relax and Unwind

As fun and rewarding as it is to dive in and spend quality playtime with your kids in the pool, there are days when you probably crave a bit of peace and quiet in your backyard oasis. Now’s your chance to have some tranquil solitude out by the pool while your kids are at school. If you take a little extra time for yourself to just read, listen to music, and catch some rays, you will likely be in a better mood when the rest of the family comes bursting through the door later on. Both you and they will benefit when you remember to give yourself this kind of a break once in a while.

Get in Shape in the Great Outdoors

When your kids are home from school for the summer, sometimes good fitness habits can get put on the back burner. Now that you have some time to yourself, what better way to spend the day than getting fit in the pool? You can finally swim laps without worrying about bumping into the flailing arms of your splashing children. Swimming is one of the best cardio routines. If you’re not much of a swimmer or you want to change up your workout, try water aerobics or invite friends over for some friendly water sports.

So if your kids just headed back to school, don’t be in a hurry to close up your pool for the season. There’s still plenty of great reasons to keep your pool open. This time of year offers you the perfect opportunity to plan some of the most relaxing, enjoyable grown-up pool time of the year.
