Getting Started with X10 Home Automation: 2 Basic Options To Consider

Last updated on September 18, 2018 by Sozo Staff Leave a Comment

As if it’s not enough that X10 has made home security and home automation accessible to those for whom it was previously not affordable, the fact that X10 Home Automation and X10 Home Security systems can interact with one another makes them exponentially amazing! Eliminating the need for professional installation and monthly fees, the price you see for various components (plus tax and shipping, of course!) is exactly what you need to plan on spending; there are no hidden fees.

Building Your Own X10 Home Automation System

With your choice of a build-your-own system or money-saving bundle, your X10 Home Automation network can simplify daily living for you and your family — never mind impress your friends and relatives! If you do build your own system, there are a few components you need to make sure to include, starting with a controller; you can choose from plug-in, wireless or even motion sensor controllers to activate your various lights and appliances. Of course, the motion sensor option crosses over to the Home Security branch of X10, but that’s part of the beauty of the system!

With the addition of the X10 Wifi HUB, you can remotely control and even set up schedules for any X10-enabled appliance with your Apple or Android mobile device, anywhere you’re WiFi connected.

In addition to a controller, your X10 Home Automation System will necessarily include a transceiver module. The transceiver, in turn, sends an electronic signal through your home’s existing electrical wiring, activating your choice of appliance module. Whether you choose a Lamp Module or another Appliance Module, you’ll be able to program events ahead of time or simply turn lights or appliances on and off at will, from anywhere in your home — or beyond! (You can see the basic setup in the animation below.)

How X10 works

Purchasing X10 Home Automation Package Deals

If you would prefer not to build your own system, that’s okay! In fact, you can save money by purchasing an already assembled X10 Home Automation system. These bundles come in a variety of sizes, ranging from smaller ones like this Starter System to robust packages like this X10 MAX Home Automation Complete System. No matter what size system you decide on, you can always build onto it later on. In fact, many X10 Home Automation bundles are in the form of multi-packs of some of our customers’ favorite controllers or modules.
