Custom Designed Wire Mesh Baskets for Industry

Last updated on July 15, 2008 by Sozo Staff Leave a Comment

Originality, creativity, and variety are necessary elements for a company that excels in making a product. Three M Tool is a company that manufactures custom wire baskets for industries to use for purposes as diverse as treating medical equipment and cleaning microprocessor parts.

You’d be surprised at the many possible uses a wire basket can have. Consider this basket, made to hold plastic soda bottles as they are cleaned and the labels are removed. Then the bottles can be reused.

This is just one example of limitless possibilities for custom-designed baskets, made to fit an industry’s specific needs. Using advanced 3-D CAD technology to design, Three M Tool is dedicated to creating the equipment needed by manufacturers of items from airplane parts to heavy construction equipment.

Three M offers a choice from a variety of materials, using as bases carbon steel or grades 304, 316, and 330 stainless steel. But a limitless variety of metals exists designed for strength, light weight, and other characteristics. Industries can choose materials depending on what amount of heat the wire baskets will be exposed to, what kind of chemicals (acid, alkaline, etc.) they will be dipped in, and what shape and weight is needed to hold items being manufactured.

Also, baskets can have various sizes of wire mesh, depending on how large the parts are, so they won’t slip out of the basket but will still be able to be properly sent through a treating or cleaning process. Chemicals should drain readily through the mesh holes in the base and sides of the baskets. Two types of wire mesh are available: welded and woven. In the welded mesh, wires going one direction are all laid atop wires going the other direction. This type of mesh is more firm, while the wired is more flexible. In the woven mesh, wires go over and under as they criss-cross each other. This type of mesh bends more easily. Three M Tool offers mesh in whatever size and made with whatever wire diameter a company needs.

The metal baskets can also be coated or finished to withstand powerful chemicals or high temperatures or just to look nice and shiny. The websites lists several options for surface finishes for wire baskets. The base can simply have a natural finish in its normal state, or a stainless steel basket can be electropolished to remove surface iron and make it shiny. Many other possibilities exist.

Various coatings can also be applied to the baskets. The basket can be dipped in plastisol to give it a vinyl coating for ease of holding or color coding. Also, several powder coatings such as epoxy, polypropylene, nylon, and teflon improve ability to withstand chemicals and increase durability.

Listed above are just a few possibilities offered on Three M Tool’s website for basket design, surface materials, mesh sizes, and coating and finishing. This company will work with any industry to custom-design a basket for whatever their needs might include.
