Counting the Cost of Egiving

Last updated on September 23, 2011 by Sozo Staff Leave a Comment

Just like you, we’re in the ministry: Our aim isn’t to amass wealth but to further the work of Christ. At E-giving, we’re a nonprofit organization, and our founders work as volunteers. Bringing decades of experience in pioneering EFT payments in the health club industry, George and Louise Eusterman have retired from their secular professions in order to dedicate their time and talents to helping Christian ministries maximize their stewardship and see increased faithfulness in giving.

While the online giving and electronic giving solutions we offer aren’t free of charge, they’re available to only Christian churches and ministries at prices discounted from what they would find elsewhere. In addition to our affordable rates, we offer a simple, all-in-one system that includes constantly developing web-based applications that provide outlets to the most cutting-edge payment methods, adapted carefully for donations and giving.

The fees structure is basically comprised of these three types (note that fees are subject to change):

1. For initial custom setup and training, the cost is $100 for para-church organizations or $200 for churches.

2. A recurring monthly fee of $30 pays for interface support, our expert support, and both ACH and credit card gateways.

3. Individual transaction fees amount to $0.25 per transaction, in addition to debit and credit card merchant fees ranging from 2.1% to 2.2%, depending on the credit card company.

So why would you pay to receive donations, when you can receive them non-electronically, for free? There would certainly be no need for the kinds of tools offered by Egiving.com, if today’s believers gave like the Israelites did in the building of the temple. At one point, they were told to stop giving because such an abundant amount had already been collected. But unless your ministry is thriving, to that degree, using Egiving.com’s tools can benefit your church or parachurch organization.

The single-digit percentages of giving paid out for Egiving.com’s services pale in comparison to the 15% to 25% of the typical parachurch organization’s budget that’s used for fundraising, each year. Instead of those hefty percentages, your organization could be spending less than 1%, on average, to maintain the recurring gifts of e-givers. With a retention rate of 95% over 5 years, this tried method is saving ministry money for tasks that serve their original purposes far more than fundraising. In addition to saving money, this kind of efficiency also saves efforts of both paid staff and volunteers. Long-range planning benefits from the more reliable recurring donations, too, so overall effectiveness is positively impacted, as well.

When staff are free to focus their attention on ministry and planning for managing resources is possible, growth is somewhat unavoidable. From pregnancy centers to missionaries on the foreign field, this kind of stability has led to increased effectiveness in fulfilling the Kingdom calling that led them to desire ministry, in the first place.
