Consigning with the Penny Pincher Boutique: A Beginner’s Guide

Last updated on October 24, 2018 by Sozo Staff Leave a Comment

Consigning with the Penny Pincher Boutique can be a great experience! Consigning is truly a win-win: someone else gets to utilize clothing which you’re no longer able to use, and you get to simplify your own closet and earn money to spend on pieces which you’ll be better able to utilize!

Many of our consignors are also customers, and we absolutely love being able to serve them in both capacities. Because our consignors are so important to us, we do our best to outline our specifications as well as our consignment process carefully: we communicate exactly what you need to know in order to consign with us.

Categories of Consignment Items

As a customer, we’re sure you appreciate how cautious we are about the items we accept on consignment. As a consignor, we realize that our policies may seem restrictive; but really, you don’t want us to accept all items, getting your hopes up, when we know that based on our clientele, they simply would not sell.

First, consider our general parameters: women’s luxury clothing. We also carry women’s shoes, handbags, accessories, and jewelry — along with a few other categories such as men’s accessories and some gift and home decor pieces. We do not accept any men’s or children’s clothing, nor do we accept vintage items, or wedding or bridesmaid dresses.

Condition of Consignment Items

When it comes to women’s clothing, we’re also quite particular about both the condition and the quality of the clothing. Items should be in like-new or very gently used condition. Specifically, they should show no obvious flaws or signs of wear such as holes or stains.

When you bring articles in for evaluation, they should be freshly cleaned and pressed and hanging on a hanger, ready for our sales floor. Even if an item is new with tags, however, quality comes into play. We carry only clothing items made by high-fashion designers. Such pieces must be authentic and will be evaluated according to comparison pieces by our knowledgeable staff.

Calendar for Consignment Items

When it comes to the calendar, there are two areas to consider: the season we’re in as well as the day and the time when you bring us items to consider.

In January, we primarily accept items appropriate for cruises. In February, March, and April, we request pieces appropriate for spring. In May and June, we prefer summer items. In August, September, and October, please bring in only those items suitable for fall. In November and December, we welcome both holiday party wear and winter pieces. For more details, check out this list.

In order to provide you and your items with the special attention which you and your items deserve, we kindly request that you make a consignment appointment rather than simply coming in. We can schedule to meet with you any day of the week, except Sundays or Thursdays. Please call us at (914) 241-2134 to schedule your appointment.
