If you’re a vegetarian or vegan or are just trying to live a more natural life, you may have considered changing your pet’s food to better suit your personal preferences. Perhaps you have heard about the many health and environmental benefits of a human transitioning to a vegetarian or vegan diet and want to help your pet by having them make the switch, too.
While it might seem logical, it is simply not a smart option to turn your dog into a vegetarian. It is unnatural for a dog to be fed a vegetarian diet, and eliminating meat from his diet can deprive him of essential vitamins and nutrients. Please remember that a dog’s nutritional needs are wildly dissimilar from ours. Also remember, however, that dogs need a variety of foods and cannot survive on meat alone. So although you shouldn’t feed them vegetables exclusively, it is important to ensure that there are plenty vegetables present in your dog’s diet.
