Budget-Friendly Swimming Pool Heaters

Last updated on April 2, 2018 by Sozo Staff Leave a Comment

No matter how high-end or low-end you go, a swimming pool heater will expand the usefulness and comfort of your pool — and, as result, your ability to enjoy it and the many benefits that it provides. Essentially, it will help you make the most of your investment. No more telling your kids to stop complaining about being cold; they’ll be able to comfortably swim for longer hours, as well as for a longer season in your well-heated pool. Now, once they get out of the pool and into the cooler air, that’s another story. While the following pool heaters won’t be quite as powerful as higher-priced models, at under $1,000 they still have plenty to offer and without breaking the bank.

Least Expensive Option: SmartPool SunHeater Solar Heating System

If finances are tight, but you still want to heat your pool up a bit, solar power is the way to go. By harnessing the sun’s power, systems like this SmartPool SunHeater will increase your pool’s temperature by as much as 10 to 15 degrees in approximately a day. Of course, its effectiveness will depend somewhat on your environment and the temperatures.

This system is intended for round or oval, above-ground pools but could definitely make a difference for larger, in-ground pools, as well. Priced between $100 and $200, it’s a bargain, for sure!

Least Expensive for Rectangular Pools: Blue Wave Rectangular Solar Blanket

Similar to the solar heating system described above, the Blue Wave Solar Blanket is designed to span the surface of a rectangular pool that measures 16 feet by 32 feet (other sizes are also available).

Its 12 mil surface allows the sun’s rays to be transformed into heat for your pool’s water, bringing it to a temperature 15 degrees higher than it would otherwise be. Again, like any solar heater, the process will take time. But at just over $100, this heater won’t cost much at all.

Value-Priced Electric Heater: Ecosmart US Smart POOL 27

If you prefer electric heating, this Ecosmart system might be the best choice for you. Easy to install, this system can be set up and left alone, keeping your pool water temperature stable.

You can easily adjust the water temperature without having to spend much time or energy doing so.

Priced between $500 and $1000, it might be a good mid-range option for expanding your swimming season.

Compatible Starter System To Build On: Hayward H100ID1 H-Series

Designed for medium to large-sized pools, this Hayward model puts out 100,000 BTU’s of power.

Offering an electronic start system and quick, reliable heat, setting the temperature takes only seconds.

While it appears similar to the H400FDN (which we reviewed in another post) but lacks the extreme power that model provides, this one is designed similarly to other Hayward models, making it easy to adapt for future compatibility as you upgrade your system.

Whether you want to expand your pool’s usefulness by a couple of hours per day, a couple of weeks per season, or maybe even a couple of months, a pool heater can be a beneficial addition to your backyard swimming pool.
