Advice on Safe Truck Driving

Last updated on July 7, 2011 by Sozo Staff Leave a Comment

Truck driving can be a very rewarding career, but one of the most important aspects of your job is learning how to drive safely. There are a number of ways to do this, and one of these techniques is called “target driving.” Target driving involves you as the driver focusing your attention on an object in the middle of your field of vision located about 10 seconds’ driving time in front of you. This technique widens your field of vision (rather than just focusing on the car directly in front of you) and therefore allows you to apprehend potential risks earlier.

Another way to drive safely is to always have an escape route planned in the event that a driver in front of you comes to a stop suddenly. Because your vehicle has a longer stopping distance than a car, be sure to continuously check your mirrors for other vehicles, and leave enough room in the surrounding lanes so that you can quickly move left or right in an emergency situation. Learning how to drive safely is essential for both you and other drivers.
